Snapshot of a School Library During COVID-19 #2

School libraries during covid

Natasha Georgiou, Teacher Librarian at Sevenoaks Senior College, WA, answered our questions about what their school library team have been doing during the COVID-19 outbreak.

What has been the focus for your school library/ role during the COVID-19 crisis?
Providing resources and online support for our teaching staff. Next term this will extend to our student body.

What major tasks have you achieved?
Created a virtual library support page on the school's learning management platform, Connect. This focuses on providing online resources, information literacy strategies and cybersafety tips. Our Library Officer has also used the time without student interruption to organise our storeroom, cupboards and clean and tidy up the shelves (they hadn't been cleaned in many years - yuck!) Next term we hope to be able to arrange weekly student pick-ups of requested books.

What has been the result for staff and/or students?
So far we have teaching staff who have appreciated the support as this is a very daunting time of change for them and to help them to move to online pedagogical delivery is a challenge and takes time. The results are rewarding when you have reluctant users on online technology become comfortable in using these tools.
